Rods include: vowels, consonants, pictures with initial vowel sounds, and pictures with initial consonant sounds. Skills taught: recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters, sequencing the letters of the alphabet, identifying phonemes (sounds), and matching letter sounds with pictures (r with rabbit).
